History of department

History of the department of compressors and pneumatic units

In 1968, in connection with the beginning of the graduation of engineers in the specialty “Refrigeration and compressor machines and installations”, the Department of Compressors, Expansion Machines and Mechanical Engineering Technology, headed by Professor V.F. Tchaikovsky (now it is the department of compressors and pneumatic units). The staff of the department “Compressors and Refrigeration Engineering Technology” for 1965-1972: Tchaikovsky VF-Head. Department until 1969, Kuznetsov AP- Head. since 1969, Berlad VP, Dorokhin VP, Chertok VD, Vodianytska NI, Mysotsenko VS, Eremenko DM, Vasyutinsky YA, Melnikov V. D. For the past 40 years the department has been producing mechanical engineers for compressor and expansion machines, conducting research work in various directions of development of domestic compressor engineering. Two scientific schools have been formed: a compression compressor research school, the area of scientific interest of which is thermal and acoustic testing of piston compressors and the choice of optimal working substances; School of Process Studies in Turbochargers and Turbomachines. For many years, the department has been fruitfully cooperating with the Central Institute of Aviation Motor Engineering. PL Baranov (CIAM) for the development of compressor stations for ground testing of aircraft engines, JSC “Kholodmash”, JSC “Kisenmash”, STI “Storm” and others.

From 1975 to 1987 the department was headed by Ph.D. Associate Professor Neonila Vodianitska, who graduated with honors in 1958 from OTIHP (now ONAFT), and in 1967 defended her Ph.D.

Under the guidance of a highly qualified teacher and scientist – Vodianytska N.I. the department has finally formed the educational process, as well as the foundations of a wide range of research closely related to the educational process.

Modern scientific problems of compressor and refrigeration technology improvement were thoroughly researched at the department. The scientists of the department systematically participated in scientific and technical conferences including international and seminars in the fields of compressor engineering and refrigeration. The teaching activity at the department was accompanied by a large amount of scientific work within the department of the research department of the problem laboratory for refrigeration. The works were commissioned by leading companies in the field of refrigeration engineering, such as: Kharkov Refrigeration Plant, Riga Compressor Plant, Kiev Scientific Production Enterprise Vesta, Odessa Orion Compressor Machine Companies, Kholodmash and Storm. All work was aimed at investigating the workflow of small hermetic refrigeration compressors in order to improve their performance.

For many years of fruitful work at the Academy, Neonila Ivanovna was repeatedly awarded by the Ministry of Higher Education. Her awards are: “Excellence in Education of Ukraine” in 2002, Medal “For Labor Difference” in 1971, Medal “Veteran of the USSR Labor” in 1987.

Her work has been continuously linked to active social work.

Neonila Vodyanytska was elected a deputy of the Central District Council of Workers’ Deputies for four convocations (16, 17, 18, 19) from 1979 to 1991.

Since 1987 the department has been headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences – Professor Milovanov V.I. – Honored Scientist of Ukraine, Acting Academician of the Ukrainian Branch of the International Cold Academy (MAH), which was created and works effectively at the State University. The international relations of the OSAR and the department, as well as the functioning of the OSAR as an associate member of the International Cold Institute, enable the members of the department to be well acquainted with the modern achievements of science and technology in the field of turbocharger, vacuum and refrigeration and to use them creatively in the course of scientific and educational activities.

The total number of the teaching staff of the department of compressors and pneumatic units is 14 people, including:

– Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor – 1 person

– Ph.D., associate professors – 9 people

Since 2002, the Department of Compressors and Pneumatic Aggregates began to produce bachelors, specialists and masters in the specialty “Compressors, Pneumatic Units and Vacuum Engineering”, and in the 2008-09 academic year at the department the first graduation of bachelors in the specialty “Gas turbine plants and compressors” was held.

The department of compressors and pneumatic units has a rather high scientific and pedagogical potential. Most of the teachers cooperated with the turbocharger, vacuum and refrigeration enterprises for a considerable time, which allowed them to master the basics of practical development, research and serial production of the turbocharger, vacuum and refrigeration equipment that they use creatively during the educational and research process. Most of the teachers of the department are the leading specialists of Ukraine in the field of turbocharging, refrigeration and vacuum equipment.
